Drug discovery

Share job area:

Drug discovery is an important area of biotechnology.  This process involves screening genes, peptides, proteins, or other substances for their therapeutic potential, and researching promising candidates.

Many techniques are used in drug discovery, including immunochemistry, genetic modeling, cell culture, study of animal models, clinical studies, and much more. New technologies are in constant development to innovate the way drug discovery is carried out.

One of the ways the field of drug discovery is changing is towards "personalized medicine," which is medical practice that is tailored towards individuals by taking into account their unique environmental (family history, medical history, etc.) and biological (genetics, molecular biology, physical state, etc.) backgrounds. Increasingly, drugs are being developed to target subtypes of heterogeneous diseases and tailor treatment accordingly.
